GroenLinks Partij voor de Dieren comparison

Together, GroenLinks and Partij voor de Dieren are the core of the climate movement in our parliament. We fight for a world that we can pass on to next generations. And we both stand for better animal welfare and the abolishment of factory farming. On local and national levels.

We complement each other in our differences in style. GroenLinks has a slightly stronger focus on measurable results. Together we’ve achieved successes like a ban on fireworks.

European collaboration

GroenLinks and Partij voor de Dieren differ most in terms of our stance on the European Union. GroenLinks has the firm belief that important challenges such as tackling the climate crisis, combatting tax evasion and effecting a more humane asylum policy can only be overcome through European collaboration.

Partij voor de Dieren has no faith in the EU and wants to limit collaboration. Another difference is that we let our plans to tackle the climate crisis be screened on feasibility by Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (PBL). The plans of the Partij voor de Dieren don’t get screened.

In light of the war in Ukraine a new difference emerged between GroenLinks and Partij voor de Dieren. GroenLinks voted in favour to support Ukraine with defensive military supplies, the Partij voor de Dieren refuses this support to Ukraine.

On a local level the biggest difference between GroenLinks and Partij voor de Dieren is that Partij voor de Dieren doesn’t govern in a single municipality. GroenLinks governs in about 90 of them. GroenLinks has the clear ambition to govern, and through governing wants to tackle the climate crisis and make The Netherlands a more fair and inclusive country. The Party voor de Dieren prefers to do this from the opposition.
