Housing is a human right. Houses are meant to be lived in, they are not meant to generate profit for the happy few. GroenLinks wants affordable housing for everyone.
Speculators are shamelessly taking advantage of the housing shortage with extreme and ever-rising rents. This puts enormous financial pressure on tenants. GroenLinks aims to lower rental prices and wants to introduce a rent price cap on almost all rental properties.
Almost 20 percent of owner-occupied homes in 2020 were bought by investors. That’s why we want to bring a housing obligation into effect; buyers of a house will be obliged to live there themselves, instead of letting it out and making huge profits.
The government should play an active role in guaranteeing the right to housing. Municipalities should take measures where the national government deliberately refuses to intervene.
