GroenLinks SP comparison

GroenLinks and SP both want The Netherlands to be more fair. We want to reduce poverty, tackle the housing shortages, and strive for livable wages for teachers and nurses. On economic and social levels, we like to work together with the SP.

SP and GroenLinks also share ideals and believes about climate change. But GroenLinks is more ambitious than the SP, and we put this subject on the political agenda more often. SP and GroenLinks both share the ambition to make our society more green in a fair way, by fighting energy poverty and trying to keep the bills for gas from rising too much.

European collaboration

GroenLinks and SP differ most in our views on European Collaboration. GroenLinks has the firm belief that important challenges such as tackling the climate crisis, combatting tax evasion and effecting a more humane asylum policy can only be overcome through European collaboration. SP has no faith in the EU and wants to limit collaboration. GroenLinks is also more progressive on themes such as abortion or euthanasia.

In light of the war in Ukraine a new difference emerged between GroenLinks and SP. GroenLinks voted in favour to support Ukraine with defensive military supplies, the SP refuses this support to Ukraine.

On a local level, GroenLinks and SP differ most in our tactics to tackling air pollution and traffic problems. GroenLinks wants to ban cars from inner cities, and lower the maximum speed within urban areas. The SP doesn’t always agree with this, and therefore does not make the health and living comfort of residents a top priority.
